Kathak Kala Vihar
Kathak is a North Indian Classical dance form that easily touches one’s heart with it’s beauty, grace, rhythm, and lyrical quality. Like most Indian art forms, Kathak is more than just a dance or a passing cultural experience- it is living and experiencing the Indian artistic tradition in depth. For Kathak performer and choreographer, Sangita Nandy, it is also a spiritual practice.
At Kathak Kala Vihar, her dance school, Sangita is keeping this classical tradition alive by training the next generation of dancers. She considers herself particularly fortunate to be able to pass on the dance form, that she was so well-trained in by her Guru Nrityasiromani Bandana Sen, to children and adult learners in USA.
Along with Kathak, Sangita also teaches children Indian folk dances, and dances based on Rabindra Sangeet (Songs composed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore).
